Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Tumor Specialty at Guangzhou Royal Lee Cancer Center, headed by Honorary President Wang Jie(a famous hepatobiliary and pancreatic expert in China), is the leading and iconic treatment provider in Guangdong Province with all the team members obtaining doctor degree, and is an important constituent of the national clinical key specialty of general surgery.
 
The specialty has developed into a one-stop hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumor diagnosis and treatment center that is based in South China and extends its influence beyond the area in virtue of the technical strength of the first hepatobiliary specialized hospital in South China, namely the hepatobiliary and splenic surgery of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital and the genius of famous doctors from various subspecialties. It is also working on establishing scientific research centers and clinical teaching and training base with various universities.
 
The department is the vice committee director of the Hepatobiliary Surgery Working Committee of the Surgeons Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the committee director of the Hepatobiliary Surgery Branch of Guangdong Medical Doctor Association, the national training base for advanced hepatobiliary surgery of the International Hepato-Pancreato Biliary Association China Branch, the vice committee director of the Asia-Pacific Laparoscopic Liver Resection Promotion Committee China Branch, and the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Laparoscopic Hepatobiliary Surgery. Famous doctors in the discipline has also carried out clinical and basic research, thus the department has access to the academic support from the national 863 projects, 973 projects, the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" science and technology projects and more than ten national natural science funds. It also echoes with the "5010" clinical research project of Sun Yat-sen University to publish over 100 SCI-indexed papers for future clinical translation in famous journals such as Hepatology, Gut and Clinical Cancer Research.
